A. We recommend hiring a professional, but most users or a family member are able to install it themselves. It is a relatively simple "Plug-In" retrofit.
Power to the stove must be shut off at the electrical panel (fuse box) & usually the stove must be moved to gain access to the stove plug & wall outlet.
Power Control Box with 4-Prong Plug
The Power Box "plugs-in" between the stove cord & the wall outlet. The sensor wire is routed up to the area where the sensor will be installed. The sensor unit is then screwed to an upper kitchen cabinet or to the wall near the stove and the control cord is connected.
COOKTOP models require the use of a licensed Electrician. They are hard-wired and must be connected according to local building codes. Typical installation should be about an hour service call.

Q. Where should I install the sensor unit?
A. In a position where it can monitor the high-traffic cooking area of your kitchen without being exposed to a direct heat source.
Electronic Monitoring Unit (EMU)
The sensor unit has a range of about 12 feet. It may be attached to the bottom of a kitchen upper cabinet or on a wall next to the stove.
Q. Will my stove stick out from the wall with the unit in place?
A. No, the Power Control Box is located behind the stove, out of sight.
It is designed to fit in the area behind the stove pot drawer, allowing the stove to pushed back flush to the wall.
Q. What if there is a dog in the house. Will it keep resetting when there is movement from the dog or can you make the sensor directional to avoid the dog?
A. The motion sensor has a height adjustment screw that allows you to aim the sensor high enough to not detect your dog (or small children).
Q. Is Stove Guard user friendly?
A. Stove Guard operates in 2 easy to use modes:
AUTO - automatically shuts the stove off if the user is out of the sensing area longer than the preset time.
When the user returns, the stove is turned on again automatically. Stove Guard will remember the preset time.
TIMER - allows the stove to operate for a preset amount of time. This mode can be used when cooking a specific dish. Once the set time is over, power to the stove is turned off.
After Timer mode has shut off power to the stove, power to the stove will not be turned back on until the user resets Stove Guard to either AUTO or TIMER mode again.
Q. What time should I set my Stove Guard timer to?
A. The factory default setting is 1 minute, offering maximum protection.
The user can set the time to their particular needs. Stove-top fires can ignite in as little as a few minutes.
Q. I just installed Stove Guard and my stove's clock keeps stopping.
A. Move the rocker switch on the lower Power Control Box to the other position.
Q. Will Stove Guard control the oven only?
A. Stove Guard is designed to protect against a stovetop fire.
It controls the main power to the stove, controlling both the burners & the oven together in AUTO (motion detection time may be set up to 39 minutes or 15 minutes for the new PRO model) and TIMER modes (countdown time may be set up to 99 minutes or 7 hours for the new PRO model).
Q. If there is a power outage, will Stove Guard lose it's memory settings?
A. Stove Guard will Restart in AUTO Mode automatically & revert to it's 1 minute default setting. If the motion sensor detects no activity, it will shut down power to the stove after 1 minute. After a power outage, the new PRO MODEL will automatically turn itself back on, but the power to the stove is disabled until the user presses any button.
